Weed Control During Aeration & Seeding

Category
Aeration & Seeding

Aeration and Seeding are essential to keep a healthy lawn of Tall Fescue. Ideally, you would have a weed-free lawn before you aerate and seed, but sometimes weeds still get through.

Weeds? No problem

The use of weed control during Aeration and Seeding time is a challenging task. While introducing new turf to your lawn, weeds may begin to breakthrough. The use of weed control has the potential to affect new seedlings in your lawn; any weed control should not be applied unless the turf is at least 2 inches tall. As the fall arrives and temperatures cool down, summer annual weeds will begin to die on their own, and in most cases, weed control is not needed.

Virginia Green will treat weeds and provide winter fertilization with our year-round programs so that by next spring, the yard will have a full plot of Tall Fescue. Bottom line, there is no need to worry about weeds during aeration and seeding. Ideally, we all want a weed-less lawn, but if they do appear during the aeration and seeding season, it is best to just wait them out as it is more important to establish the grass than to kill weeds.
