If you have not already been watering your lawn, please start watering immediately. Even though we have had spotty showers in most of our treatment area, we have not had enough consistent rainfall to supply the needed water to the lawns. We suggest watering 2 to 3 times a week putting out ¾ of an inch to an inch of water with each session, or until you have light puddling. BROWN PATCH IS RAMPANT IN OUR AREA!

In the last couple of weeks the conditions for brown patch disease to occur have been excellent. The night time temperatures staying at or above seventy degrees, coupled with the evening rain showers, have created conditions where the lawns have stayed moist overnight. These are the conditions where brown patch is most likely to occur, and we have seen it in many lawns not treated with a fungicide.

For customers that subscribe to our ten application Estate Lawn Care program, you have just received the first of three fungicide applications on that program. These fungicide treatments are designed as a preventative program to keep brown patch and dollar spot from occurring, or if it is already present in a lawn, to halt its activity and keep it from spreading.

For customers that subscribe to our seven application Premium Lawn Care program, if you are seeing signs of brown patch you have a couple of options. You may choose to have a single fungicide application, priced out at two times your regular application cost. This treatment would provide your lawn with 30 days of fungicide protection. Your other option, and the one that Virginia Green Lawn Care recommends, would be to switch over to the more extensive Estate Lawn Care program, and receive the three fungicide treatments. This would allow your lawn to have brown patch protection for a full 90 days, through the summer months when brown patch is occurring.
