PLAN NOW FOR BEETLE CONTROL IN JULY!!!!!!
One of the most damaging pests to Eastern U.S. urban landscapes is the Japanese beetle. The adult beetles are active in our area from June through August and because of their mobility and gregarious habits, their swarms can infest and defoliate large areas of plant material. Some of the more susceptible trees and shrubs in our area are Crape myrtles, Flowering plum, River birches, Japanese maples and other susceptible plants.
Customers on our Tree and Shrub Program receive a systemic injection into the root system of their trees and shrubs that will control the devastation from these insects. If you have had a problem with Japanese beetles in the past and feel that our Tree and Shrub program would be beneficial to you, please click here for an estimate, or call our office at (804) 285-6200 or (757)258-1788 and we will be happy to assist you.
IT'S TIME TO GET YOUR MOWER READY!
It is important this time of year to prepare your lawn mower for the upcoming season. Change the oil, sharpen the blade, replace the spark plug, and raise the deck to its highest setting. This setting should never be less than three inches (ideal mowing height for tall fescue is 3.5") measured with a ruler. This high setting encourages healthy grass growth while reducing weed infestations and water usage.
Mowing fescue short weakens the grass, invites weeds and disease, and requires more water. To measure the setting height, move the mower to a hard, level surface such as the driveway, and with a ruler, measure the distance from the hard surface to the bottom of the blade.
Remember to disconnect the spark plug whenever working under the mower to prevent the possibility of the mower starting. Mowing should not be necessary until the grass starts growing and reaches a height of 4" to 4.5" (never cut more than 1/3 of the total grass blade length as this could cause potential harm).
