Moles In Lawns

Frequently Asked Questions

What are moles?

Moles are burrowing mammals often inhabiting residential lawns. They are especially common around wooded lots and natural areas. Tunneling tears the roots of turf potentially causing extensive damage. However, moles benefit the soil by being natural aerators. These animals are insectivores, with earthworms being their main food source.

Does grub control help with mole control?

This is a common misconception.  Since mole’s predominantly feed on earthworms, eliminating and preventing grubs will not reduce the mole population.  Virginia Green does offer a grub control treatment.  This helps minimize the grub population in the soil.  It is effective and beneficial since grubs can be a significant turf pest if the population is high enough.  They are subsurface root feeders that can cause an overall thin, weak stand of turf.
